We thrifters already know that thrifting  is a great way to save big and help out various organizations
The National  Association of Resale Professionals gives the actual stats about thrift/resale economic impact.

**Info below is taken from their website

Industry Statistics & Trends

Resale or retail? Can you tell the difference? Probably not! Today’s resale shops look the same as mainstream retailers... except for one big difference—they sell high quality goods at lower prices! The resale industry offers "Quality at a Savings!"
While many businesses close their doors every day, resale remains healthy and continues to be one of the fastest growing segments of retail. With new stores entering the industry and current establishments opening additional locations, the industry has experienced a growth—in number of stores—of approximately 7% a year for the past two years. This percentage reflects the estimated number of new stores opening each year, minus the businesses that close. NARTS is proud to say that future owners who look to the Association for education prior to opening, then continue their education through NARTS membership, are very successful. Many resale shops don't survive that critical first year because the owners did not do their "homework" and had no idea where to begin or what expect. There are currently more than 25,000 resale, consignment and Not For Profit resale shops in the United States.
Resale is a multi-billion dollar a year industry. First Research estimates the resale industry in the U.S. to have annual revenues of approximately $17 billion including revenue from antique stores which are 13% of their statistics. Goodwill Industries alone generated $5.37 billion in retail sales from more than 2,000 Not For Profit resale stores and online sales in 2014.  Longtime NARTS member, Crossroads Trading Co., based in Berkeley, CA, rang up over $20 million in sales 2012.  They have 32 locations, 375 employees and plans to add additional locations. Add to this the many thousands of single location shops, hundreds of multi-location chains, franchises and Not For Profit stores and you begin to realize the vast scope of this growing industry.
Resale shopping attracts consumers from all economic levels. There is no typical resale shopper, just as there is no typical resale shop. No one is immune to the excitement of finding a treasure and saving money. Shrewd shoppers take advantage of the opportunity resale offers to save money on apparel, furniture and other consumer goods. These savings can add quality to life when used for vacations, entertainment, funding college and retirement accounts, and expanding family activities.
According to America’s Research Group, a consumer research firm, about 16 - 18% of Americans will shop at a thrift store during a given year. For consignment/resale shops, it’s about 12 - 15%. To keep these figures in perspective, consider that during the same time frame; 11.4% of Americans shop in factory outlet malls, 19.6% in apparel stores and 21.3% in major department stores.
Resale has become destination shopping with the recent industry trend of clustering. Many areas are seeing resale stores opening in close proximity to each other, taking advantage of existing traffic. Antique shops have clustered for years and factory outlet stores are grouped together, proving that consumers will drive farther to reach a group of like stores. Resalers love to make an event out of shopping in an area where they can visit a variety of resale stores with different merchandise lines.
The resale market is blossoming thanks to value-conscious consumers. With an increasing awareness of the importance of reducing pointless waste, we are progressing from a disposable society to a recycling society—a change that has enormous market potential for the resale industry as a whole. After all, "Resale is the ultimate in recycling!"

The Importance of Financial Dedication and Perseverance

To truly understand and appreciate a craft you must have dedication and perseverance with an ever-vigilant eye on your goal.

Do you remember the scene from the 1984 movie, “The Karate Kid” where the young protagonist, Daniel, stands begrudgingly next to a car while his sensei, Mr. Miyagi, instructs him to “wax on and wax off”? The seemingly pointless and repetitive exercise was the beginning of a lesson in perseverance and dedication for Daniel. The youngster was unfamiliar with his sensei’s unique teaching methods and only completed the job, time and time again, under the apparent disdain which only a teenager can deliver. At the time Daniel’s only interest was to learn karate so he could fight the kids who were bullying him in school. He did not prognosticate the benefits of this car-waxing job in relation to his tenuous journey to understand the discipline of karate. How could he have known that the constant practice of waxing would help him reach his goal of becoming a karate protegee, and ultimately help him stand up to a bully and save his sensei’s honor?

“The Karate Kid” may have been a movie intended for kids, but there is certainly a lesson to be learned for adults and children alike; anything worth doing takes hard work, dedication, and perseverance. Moreover, sometimes the road to reach our goals is riddled with obstacles which seem insignificant or bothersome. By remaining diligent in an effort to obtain those objectives, one is far more likely to succeed. Just like the discipline of karate which takes time, commitment, and patience, so too does saving for your retirement and building yourself a life of financial freedom and security.

Whatever your financial “wax-on, wax-off” may be, Benedetti, Gucer and Associates can help ensure your hard work aligns with your goals for the future.

Daniel needed Mr. Miyagi to enlighten him with new ways of learning, while simultaneously teaching him a craft rooted in discipline. Similarly, maybe you could benefit from having a “financial sensei” guide you through the economic landscape. Just like Daniel, just because you can throw a punch does not mean you know how to win a fight. You may be knowledgeable about the financial industry and the stock market, but still get derailed due to a lack of accountability. The wealth management firm of Benedetti, Gucer and Associates (BGA) can help you gain a deeper understanding of your options, and hold you accountable to reaching your financial goals, making sure you are in the best position for future financial success based on your long-term objectives, timeline, and risk tolerance.

BGA is located in Atlanta, Georgia, but they have clients across the country who depend on their expertise and knowledge to help them build sophisticated investment portfolios. BGA is a boutique firm specializing in individual wealth management and corporate retirement plans for businesses (401(k)’s, Cash Balance Plans, Profit Sharing Plans, etc.). They pride themselves on their high-standard of professional integrity and their ability to skillfully advise clients with complex financial situations.

The team of financial advisors at BGA is led by a pair of hard working individuals with an unrelenting commitment to excellence, Jaime Benedetti and Bob Gucer. The two helmsmen not only understand the markets, but they appreciate the importance that dedication and perseverance play on the journey to financial success. They, along with their team, guide clients through the myriad of available investment options, taking a holistic approach to protecting and maximizing clients wealth.

The musical icon Usher once said, “Success is about dedication. You may not be where you want to be or do what you want to do when you're on the journey. But you've got to be willing to have vision and foresight that leads you to an incredible end.” Consider discussing your vision with the advisors at Benedetti, Gucer and Associates. They can  guide you on your journey and help you realize your goals for the future. They can be your Mr. Miyagi in an unpredictable financial climate, and you can rest assured they will handle your account with honor, dedication, and unwavering perseverance.

Subject: Vikki Kirkling-Burns : Thrifter To Thrift Store Owner

Hi my name is Vikki Kirkling-Burns
My love for thrifting started as a young girl being raised by a single mother we knew all too well that is was okay  to wear and appreciate used items .
We would frequently visit yard sales back in the 90's and I never gave a second thought about the items as used,  to me it was the norm.
I also have a love for fashion, I love personal style and what better ways to show your uniqueness than by thrifting and picking items that make you shine bright.
I must say I don't just like to thrift ,but  I LOVE to thrift. This is why I decided to become a thrift shop owner of  Sassy Sarah’s Thrift Boutique located at 512 E. 6th St.  Bogalusa , Louisiana.
I  am excited to be able to share the love of thrifting to whom all enters the store.

My philosophy is
When you value yourself you don't need expensive clothing and brand names on your body to be happy. That kind of happy comes from doing what you love to do in life .
I truly have found my dream job as owner of my own thrift boutique.
