Salvation Army - A Cause To Get Behind

Wednesday, February 15, 2017

When I travel, I often look for places to" thrift for a cause “and there is usually a local Salvation Army thrift store in the town or city. Salvation Army Stores are filled with great deals on some nice items. I have scored everything from a mahogany dining table and 6 chairs, to a simple pair of earrings.
Besides being a regular shopper, I have supported my own local Salvation Army in various ways like personally giving and  asking my thrift group to give to their coat drives, adopting a child from the Angel tree and donating regularly.

Salvation Army does so much in local communities  Adult Rehabilitation, Veteran’s Services, Elderly Services, Housing & Homeless Relief, and Disaster Relief  are just a few .

Who Is the Salvation Army?

The Salvation Army began in 1865 when William Booth, a London minister, gave up the comfort of his pulpit and decided to take his message into the streets where it would reach the poor, the homeless, the hungry and the destitute. In May 1878, Booth summoned his son, Bramwell, and his good friend George Railton to read a proof of an annual report. At the top it read: THE CHRISTIAN MISSION is A VOLUNTEER ARMY. Bramwell Booth strongly objected to this wording. He was not a volunteer: he was compelled to do God's work. So, in a flash of inspiration, his father crossed out 'Volunteer' and wrote 'Salvation'. Thus, The Salvation Army was born.
Their Mission Statement says it all!
The Salvation Army, an international movement, is an evangelical part of the universal Christian
Church. Its message is based on the Bible. Its ministry is motivated by the love of God. Its mission
is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and to meet human needs in His name without discrimination. Info Retrieved from ( )

This is why I support them and their programs
