Friday, March 25, 2016

I stepped out a few weeks ago , It was still a bit chilly, so I pulled together a warm outfit .The OOTD  consisted of a printed blouse  I scored from the most recent Goodwill Last Chance sale in Macon I topped it with my dark torquise jacket score at the Clearinghouse Women's consignment fall sale I completed the look with my big silver sequined purse from Zebulon Rd. Goodwill of Middle Ga. Usually my outfits will consist of thrift pieces from multiple or resale spots, this was only an example of that type thrift pairing. Do you shop thrift at multiple shops in your area?

Today Is WORLD WATER DAY. I Supported The Cause !

Tuesday, March 22, 2016

Today was WORLD WATER DAY, a day set to focus on the world water crisis and how it affects women. World Water Day is recognized each year on March 22.In my acknowledgement of it, I purchased a chalice from Stella Artois to support their BUY A LADY A DRINK FUNDRAISER. I purchased the chalice to support the effort in Kenya. There are chalices specific provide support  to various countries so supporters can choose hand-designed chalices from Kenya, Peru and Haiti, the purchase will help support production of clean water for 5 years . I wanted to inform my readers about the water crisis. I am water professional and this issue is one that I take an active interest  in. My web searches over the last few weeks helped educate me even more. In fact, I was astounded to learn that actor Matt Damon cares deeply about access to clean water.
Here is just an overview from an Huntington post article about Matt Damon's support of the world water crisis.
For the last 25 years, he has worked tirelessly to help bring clean water and sanitation to women all over the globe.
Around the world, 663 million people live without access to safe water. That’s twice the population of the United States — but Damon feels that this crisis disproportionately affects women. It’s estimated that women in the developing worldwalk a combined 125 million miles a day to collect water for their families.
This month, his organization is teaming up for the second time with Stella Artois for their “Buy a Lady a Drink“ campaign, which encourages the purchase of hand-designed chalices from Kenya, Peru and Haiti.
Every chalice purchased provides one person with five years of clean water. Last year they brought five years of clean water to more than 290,000 women in the developing world.
The campaign’s focus in 2015 was on women’s long journeys for clean water. This year, the campaign showcases the positive impact that access to clean water can have. Damon and Stella Artois will unveil three new short films from the project at the Sundance Film Festival next week.
Damon sat down with The Huffington Post in December on the set of one video shoot to talk about how water became his cause — and how he hopes we’ll all consider what kind of legacy we want to leave behind in this world.
The Huffington Post: Do you view the global water crisis as a women’s issue?
Matt Damon: Absolutely. The water collection falls onto the women in the family. The matriarch of the household is doing the water collection or it’s the girls in the family. The girls are the ones disproportionally affected by lack of clean water and sanitation issues.

Meet Mr. Jarmaal Hamilton ; A Guy Who Thrifts

Monday, March 21, 2016

I know most group page posts are done by thrift-sisters.
Well there are guys who have figured out how great thrifting is.
Meet Mr. Jarmaal Hamilton, who is one of my first members to join Thrifting Central Ga.  Jarmaal is from the Central Georgia area.
I asked Jarmaal a few questions about his thrifting.
Jarmaal has been thrifting for about 3 years and his thrift philosophy is to thrift early and thrift often.

When asked what his favorite spots were,  Jarmaal replied that his favorite thrift spots are Goodwill, Smileys Flea Market, Salvation Army, and any mom and pop store he comes across.
Jarmaal absolutely will not thrift underwear or
things for his daughter. I wanted to know the best thrift  tip Jarmaal had to offer new or fellow thrifters, he replied that his best  tip is get to the stores when they open he says the best deals come when they first open, and know your half off tag colors and go for those first
I wanted to know his best thrift score thus far; his answer was (a pair of Beats by Dre headphones for $4.99)! Finally I asked him if “Thrifting Central Ga. ever offered a thrift bus tour if he would go along with us, he stated “I would definitely be willing to try out a thrifting bus tour ‘. I am glad to have a guy who thrifts in our group!

I am late posting this one, but I made the weekend premiere of the DEADPOOL movie back in February. I wore items scored at the Annual Boutique Warehouse Sale in my town. My shawl and boots were purchased at this year's sale for 90 % off retail price.  My jeans were a thrift score from the Salvation Army thrift store .All the above was accessorized with my necklace from WEAR thrift store in Macon. I tried out Tradesy for the purse. I enjoyed DEADPOOL.  The bonus was being dressed head to toe in super low priced items.

Fried Green Tomatoes , Antiques and My Thrifted OOTD

Sunday, March 13, 2016

Central Ga. has some neat spots to visit on a quick road trip. I decided to venture out a few months  ago. I ended up in Juliette Georgia, home of the Whistle Stop Cafe and site of the filming of the movie Fried Green Tomatoes. I found a quaint little spot with quiet streets filled with some cool little antique and gift stores, most carry some part of the famous movie title. I spotted an ice cream shop, more antiques , and some great yard decor. I was too late to try the famed fried green tomatoes, because the Whistle Stop Cafe had already closed for the day. None the less it was a neat way to spend a Sunday evening out in Central Georgia. I was dressed head to toe in some of my thrift finds. My jacket was scored from Goodwill , boots, jeans and blouse were all from The Salvation Army of Central Georgia Thrift Stores.

Thrift SCORE Victoria Secret Love Pink Shirt

Friday, March 11, 2016

I scored this LOVE PINK shirt for a small price. It will go well with a pair of jeans. I love thrifting fashion pieces that I would not pay outrageous retail prices for! This Victoria's Secret LOVE PINK  shirt is one such item, but at around $2.99 it was a great thrift find.

Natural Handcreams Work Magic

A few months ago Thrifting Central Ga. Hosted a member yard sale. We had a few venders to participate . I had chance to purchase a great natural hand cream made from Shea butter, olive oil and scented oils from a female owned company.  Blissful Gems makes some really good hand creams that smooth and soften even the driest skin. Blissful Gems offers a variety of scents in small and large sizes. My fave is the Tranquil Waters. Crystal Edwards is the owner. Look her up at Blissful Gems on Instagram and Facebook.

Nail Down Some Beauty Products on Your Next Thrift Thrift

Friday, March 4, 2016

In your thrifting do not forget to go through the section with beauty products and knick knacks. Recently, I was in Tags of Hope thrift shop, which helps to fund our local Methodist Children’s Home. While shopping there, I stumbled upon some super deals on name brand nail polishes. I scored some full new bottles of great colors of Essie, OPI and Borghese brand nail polishes for under two dollars each.
Back in December I was in Alabama shopping at my favorite closeout spot DIRT CHEAP and scored some great hypoallergenic make up removing pads for 90 % of $5.99.
When thrifting beauty products, I always make sure the packaging is unopened and the product is not out of date then I will purchase the item.
What about you, do you over skip the health and beauty section of your favorite thrift spots?

Aldi Grocery Store is My New Grocery Spot

Thursday, March 3, 2016

A few years ago when a new grocery store came to town I was slow to try it. Aldi is now one of my favorite grocery spots. Aldi offers a large selection of items
at lower prices than national brand names without sacrificing any of the taste or quality. In Aldi you can find some great specialty food such as Aldi Fit & Active brand which rivals and some other big name diet food products at a fraction of the price. If you desire gluten free there is always a nice selection of Live Free gluten free products. If you have not stopped in to your local Aldi store wait no longer go check them out and enjoy great grocery prices.

I Donated to Help the Kids Yule Love.

I supported our local Kids Yule Love Organization. I can't help it I love helping others. I do it through service and donations. I practice what I preach to my FaceBook  Thrift Group Thrifting Central Ga. I ask them to Shop for a Cause. I Thrift For a Cause and that is my motto on this blog and the thrift group page. After all what better feeling than to know that your dollars are going towards a bigger cause. A cause bigger than a just new outfit or wardrobe addition. Do you donate to your local charities ? If not go out and investigate your  local charities chose one to donate to.
My blouse was a thrift score form Salvation Army on Mercer .
